Why Are Drills in Football So Important?
They Provide Physical & Mental Preparation
Drills serve to both maximize the football athlete’s physical & mental potential while also honing technical ability that provides a competitive advantage when all else is equal. In other words, a good athlete with proper football drills training will be able to succeed in the long run against a similar athlete without the training. It sounds obvious and simple, yet so many players miss out on opportunities because they (and their coaches!) don’t apply sufficient time towards developing themselves in the finer points of the game.
They Instill Confidence in Players and Coaches
In addition to maximizing potential and improving overall football ability, football drills also instill confidence in both the players and the coaches. With a dedicated drills regiment, athletes gain confidence in their ability and will believe that they can win the matchups when push comes to shove in a real football game.
An Example from College Football
At the college level, perennial title contenders Alabama and LSU are known for their tough, physical practices. And although it’s true that this old-school brand of SEC football is perceived as tough, it’s really the painstaking detail to attention that makes the difference. The coaches for these schools understand that the proper technique is what wins in battles between similarly skilled athletes. They also know that in order to develop the muscle memory and instincts needed to perform at a consistently high level, practice must emphasize the right drills and philosophical approaches.
We Make Finding the Right FB Drills Easier
We built this site for players, parents and coaches looking for a resource on football drills & practice information. We hope that in focusing on JUST this small area of football, we will be able to tailor our content and our approach to what best helps the coaches and players. The site is still in the early stages and will undergo extensive renovations in the coming months, but we encourage you to bookmark us and visit us every now and then.
